Vicky Pennington is a Registered Dietitian.  As the Boots in-house nutritionist for the past 19 years, her expertise is also used to develop both nutrition and health related products. 

"The skin reflects our inner health and vitality," says Vicky Pennington. "Eating a healthy diet will help provide the nutrients required for healthy skin.  Colourful fruits and vegetables are rich in skin-protecting antioxidant nutrients and vitamins. Eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day is a great way to boost your protective antioxidant levels, and remember  - fresh, frozen, canned, dried and juice all count towards your daily 5 target."

Vicky suggests trying different fruits and vegetables for their antioxidant benefits. "Red peppers are rich in vitamin C and carotenoids, tomatoes are rich in lycopene and when cooked and pureed their lycopene is even more effective and carrots are great for beta-carotene. Add watercress to your salad as it's high in antioxidant vitamin E.  Mangoes and berries are great antioxidant boosters too".

Drinking lots of water is also very important for your skin. "Drinking enough water benefits the skin by keeping it hydrated. Make drinking water part of your daily moisturising routine for a healthy glowing complexion.  Aim for 6 to 8 glasses of water every day, it helps flush out all those toxins" reveals Vicky.
